Marin Cilic (1.29) v Andreas Seppi (4.3)

Seppi holds a 3-2 winning head-to-head record with Cilic although they’ve not met for almost two years.

After starting the year with two titles and a semi-final showing at the Australian Open in his first three tournaments this has turned into a terrible year for Cilic. Since June the Croat has won just eight of 17 matches including losing two of his last four matches against players outside the top 50 and four of his last 10 when shorter than 1.5 to win.

Seppi has enjoyed a successful period since beating Almagro at Wimbledon and in the past three months he’s climbed 18 places in the rankings. Moreover, he’s won three of his last seven matches against players now ranked 11-50 and has won at least a set in half his last 10 matches when a 3.0-6.0 underdog.

Janko Tipsarevic (1.73) v Andrey Golubev (2.2)

Tipsarevic has been in great form over the past couple of months as he reached the semis in LA, quarters in Washington, beat Roddick at the US Open and then beat Berdych and Stepanek in Davis Cup. Furthermore, he’s won five of his last six completed hard-court matches against players currently ranked 26-50, with four wins in straight sets. The Serb has also won three of his last four matches when 1.6-2.0 to win, all in straight sets.

Golubev retired in his opening round last week in Beijing and while he reached the final in Kuala Lumpur the Kazakh is hugely inconsistent and his record in Grand Slam and Masters matches is just W3-L8 on hard courts. Golubev has lost 14 of his last 23 completed matches against players now ranked 11-50 and he’s lost seven of 10 matches since 2008 when 2.0-2.5 to win, with four 2-0 defeats.
