Paris Masters Final Preview

Soderling faces Monfils in the Paris Masters final after both players came through tight three-set semis.

Robin Soderling

Robin Soderling (1.78) v Gael Monfils (2.15)

Soderling has won both the previous meetings between these players including a week ago in Valencia.

The Swede has lost five of his seven completed finals since 2009 including each of the last three, with five of the finals being settled in straight sets. However, he has won nine of his last 14 matches when 1.6-2.0 to win and 11 of his last 16 matches against current top 25 ranked players. Also, 12 of his last 14 matches have been settled in straight sets.

Monfils has lost four of his six Tour finals since 2008, but only narrowly missed out in the final here a year ago. The Frenchman has won three consecutive matches against top-10 players and was also a recent tournament winner in Montpellier.

Nine of the last 17 Paris finals have finished in straight sets despite all but three having been best-of-five set matches. Also, seven of eight Masters finals this year have finished in straight sets with five matches having fewer than 24 games and since 2009 11 of 17 Masters finals have had fewer than 24 games with two others having exactly 24.

Recommendation: Under 23.5 games at 2.2, Boyles
