Barcelona's Xavi

Xerez v Real Madrid (Sat, 19:00)

Asian handicap: Promoted Xerez look destined for an immediate return to the Segunda division. The hosts are nailed to the bottom of the table and remain six points adrift of Tenerife who sit in 19th. Xerez have lost seven of their 11 home fixtures this term and have been defeated by two clear goals in three of their four games hosting top-six opposition. Real Madrid have won all of their last three league matches by two or more scores and the same has been true in four of their last seven trips to bottom-six teams (W6-D0-L1).

Villarreal v Athl Bilbao (Sat, 21:00)

+2.5 goals: This match marks Juan Carlos Fernandez’s first home match in charge of Villarreal and, as such, should be treated with a degree of caution. His first league fixture as boss resulted in a 1-0 defeat at Mallorca last weekend. Villarreal have won six of their last eight home matches and five of the games saw at least three goals (four +3.5 goals). Over a longer period, half (6/12) of their games hosting top-half non-Big Two sides have also settled the +2.5 goals market. 10 of Athletic Bilbao’s last 19 trips to middle-third teams have featured more than a brace of scores as have five of their last eight away fixtures when they have lost their last two on the road.

Espanyol v Deportivo (Sun, 16:00)

HT score: Espanyol have not trailed at half-time in any of their last nine home fixtures, although they have been drawing at the break on eight occasions (seven HT 0-0s). Furthermore, they have seen goalless first halves in four of their last five games hosting top-six opposition. Deportivo have been tied 0-0 at the interval in all of their last five away fixtures and the same has been true in two-thirds (20/30) of their matches at bottom-half teams since 2006/07.

Sevilla v Osasuna (Sun, 18:00)

Match outcome: Sevilla’s poor run of form continued with a 2-1 defeat at Zaragoza last weekend. The hosts have now lost five of their last seven league fixtures and they have been successful in only one of their last four games hosting middle-third opposition. Osasuna, meanwhile, come into this match in great form. They have won all of their last four La Liga ties and have suffered defeat in just two of six trips to top-six sides since the start of last term.

Atletico Madrid v Barcelona (Sun, 20:00)

HT/FT: Atletico Madrid’s problems continue to grow. The hosts have finished fourth for the last two seasons but are currently dwindling in 12th position after gaining just one point from their last three league fixtures (two L/Ls). Moreover, they have been trailing at the break in five of their last six away matches against either of the Big Two. Barcelona, meanwhile, appear to go from strength-to-strength. They remain undefeated this term (W17-D4-L0) and they have picked up maximum points from all of their last five La Liga clashes, which has included W/Ws in all of their last three on the road. Barca have been ahead at the interval in five of their last eight games travelling to middle-third opposition.
