C'ship Play-off Final: Blackpool v Cardiff

Saturday's play-off final between Ian Holloway's Blackpool and Dave Jones' Cardiff is said to be worth an estimated £90 million.

Blackpool (6th) v Cardiff (4th)

Although first seeds have a strong record generally in play-offs, there is no bias towards higher non-first seeds. Since the inception of the Premier League, just five higher-ranked teams have won within 90 minutes in 18 attempts while lower-ranked sides have gone through on 10 occasions.

Incredibly both teams have scored in none of the last 10 Championship play-offs, with six -1.5 goals games. Moreover, five of the last six games have ended 1-0. Both of the games between Blackpool and Cardiff this season finished 1-1 and, as such, under goals at odds-against is an attractive option.

One strong trend in the Championship playoff finals since 92/93 is for sides with superior defensive records to do well. Of the 17 finals in the Premier League era, the team that conceded fewer goals over the course of the season has been promoted 12 times, going W10-D4-L3 over 90 minutes. The Bluebirds (54) have conceded four fewer goals than Blackpool (58) this term.

Recommendation: Both teams to score – No 2.30, Betfair
