Group E: Roma (Bettorlogic Ranking 12) v CFR Cluj (164) (Tues, 19:45)
Roma have won 6/9 home group stage matches since 2006/07 with four victories by two clear goals and three W/Ws. Over a longer period, they have won just 2/4 home games against teams ranked outside the top-50 with three half-time stalemates. Ironically, CFR Cluj’s only away points they have gained in this competition came from a 2-1 win at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico in 2008/09. That result was somewhat of a freak though. Italian teams have won 30/39 home group stage matches against teams with a Bettorlogic rank of 51+ and 21 of the victories have been W/W doubles.
Recommendation: No bet
Group E: Basle (81) v Bayern Munich (7) (Tues, 19:45)
Although Basel faired well in their maiden Champions League campaign in 2002/03 – they beat Spartak Moscow, Juventus and Deportivo and drew with Liverpool and Valencia – they were beaten in all of their three home matches in 2008/09, scoring just one goal. Six of their nine home games have seen more than two goals. Bayern Munich have a fantastic recent qualification record in this competition. The Germans have won 7/12 away group stage games since 2005/06 while seven of the matches have also been tied at the interval. Their visitors have won-to-nil in 3/5 trips to teams ranked 51+ over the same period.
Recommendation: Bayern Munich Win 2.05, Various
Group F: Spartak Moscow (87) v MSK Zilina (258) (Tues, 17:30)
Spartak Moscow got off to a great start with a win at Marseille in their opener, however their home form in this competition is poor. The hosts are winless in nine home group matches since 2001/02 which has included five defeats and five +3.5 goals games. As most expected, Champions League newcomers Zilina found life difficult in their 4-1 loss to heavyweights Chelsea. Higher-ranked home sides have won 12/20 group stage matches between two sides ranked outside the top 50. 11 of the fixtures have seen +2.5 goals and eight +3.5 goals.
Recommendation: +3.5 goals 3.50, Boyles
Group F: Chelsea (3) v Marseille (17) (Tues, 19:45)
Chelsea brought their fantastic domestic form into the Champions League with a 4-1 win at Zilina in their opener. The Blues have won 11/15 unbeaten home group stage matches since 2005/06 with eight W/Ws and 12 clean sheets. Moreover, the Blues have prevented their opponents netting in all of their six matches against teams ranked 11-25. Marseille have lost 6/9 away group matches since 2007/08 while English sides have won 10/17 group matches hosting French opposition since 1998/99, keeping nine clean sheets in the process.
Recommendation: Chelsea Win to nil 2.25, Various
