Champions League GS2: Groups A&B

White Hart Lane experiences Champions League football for the first-time ever as Dutch side FC Twente pay a visit.

Spurs

Group A: Spurs (Bettorlogic Ranking 36) v FC Twente (53) (Weds, 19:45)

Spurs were unlucky not to beat Werder, and they may come to regret chucking a 2-0 lead away, but before the game they would have taken a point if it was on offer. English teams are undefeated in seven home matches against Dutch teams with four wins and three W/Ws. Teams ranked 26-50 have, remarkably, won 17/22 home group stage matches against lower-ranked opposition since 2003/05 and they have been level or ahead at the break in all 22 of the games. Twente, who like Spurs are Champions League debutants, gained a credible draw hosting Inter in their opener.

Recommendation: No bet

Group A: Inter Milan (4) v Werder Bremen (18) (Weds, 19:45)

Current holders Inter Milan conceded two first half goals in their draw at Twente in their opener. The Italian giants have relied on impressive home form to qualify for the knockout stages in recent years. Since 2005/06, they have won 10/15 such matches with seven wins-to-nil and they are unbeaten in four games hosting teams ranked 11-26. Werder Bremen have quite a poor away record in this competition. The visitors have been beaten in 8/15 away group stage matches since 2004/05 which has included defeats in 4/6 trips to top-10 ranked sides. Italian sides have lost just 2/11 home group stage matches against German opposition, but eight of the games have been tied at the interval.

Recommendation: No bet

Group B: Hapoel Tel-Aviv (77) v Lyon (8) (Weds, 19:45)

Hapoel Tel-Aviv lost 2-0 at Benfica in their first-ever Champions League fixture and fellow Israel outfit Maccabi Haifa were also beaten to nil in all of their three home group matches last season. Lyon have become a permanent fixture in this competition. The visitors have appeared in each edition this century and they have won 10/15 away group stage matches since 2005/06 with seven W/W doubles. Furthermore, they have a 100% record travelling to teams with a Bettorlogic rank of 51+ with 3/4 W/Ws.

Recommendation: Lyon Win 2.40, William Hill

Group B: Schalke (29) v Benfica (16) (Weds, 19:45)

Schalke will be aiming to make up for their 1-0 defeat at Lyon with a positive result here. The hosts are making just their third appearance in the Champions League since 2005/06. Within their six home group stage games since then they have recorded three W/Ws and have always been either level or in front at the break. Over the same period, Benfica have quite a poor record of just one win and five defeats which has included three L/Ls. German teams have won 9/11 home matches against Portuguese opposition in this competition and four of their victories have been W/W doubles.

Recommendation: Schalke Win 2.40, William Hill
